Seven Penn State campuses have created the Commonwealth Arboreta Network, a network that will inventory trees and plant life while sharing research and teaching resources, with the eventual goal of creating an arboretum at each of the University's 24 campuses.
Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) has introduced the inaugural Teaching and Learning Technologies Faculty Advisory Committee for the 2023-24 academic year. The committee will play a pivotal role in guiding TLT and University IT in integrating technology into teaching and learning practices at Penn State.
“In the Aspiring Scholars Program, I became comfortable with myself. I was able to have a fresh start and have people accept me for who I am. It’s why I decided to stay at Berks, and it impacted me so much that I wanted to have the same impact and inspire other foster youth to come to college,” said senior hospitality management major Amy Yu.
Eighteen new Penn State Berks practical nursing program graduates will cross the stage during the Penn State Berks fall commencement on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Santander Arena. The students earned their certificates in practical nursing and are eligible for the National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nurse, or NCLEX-PN.
“I just want to say ‘thanks’ to all the students, faculty and staff that I met at Penn State Berks. I have so much gratitude for the campus and where it’s led me," said Berks student Arizona Shreck, who will be student marshal for the commencement ceremony on Dec. 16.
Abdullah Konak, distinguished professor of information sciences and technology at Penn State Berks, was recently named the Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology Statewide Faculty Member of the Year. He was presented with the award at the fall IST faculty meeting on Oct. 27.
Two Penn State Berks students — Elizabeth Geynovich and Emiley Witman — recently received funding from the Project RECONNECT program, which provides financial support to students who re-enroll within a two-year stop-out period in postsecondary education to complete a degree or program.
Praveen Veerabhadrappa, associate professor of kinesiology at Penn State Berks, was part of a panel of 43 scientists from 18 countries convened by the International Society of Hypertension College of Experts to review current research on new directions in hypertension prevention and develop recommendations that individuals can apply to their own lives.
Penn State Berks will host a variety of events during Global Entrepreneurship Week from Monday, Nov. 13 to Thursday, Nov. 16. Events are sponsored by the college’s Flemming Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development (CEED) Center and the Berks LaunchBox in downtown Reading. All events are free and open to the public but advanced registration is required for some events.
